Sun Sign and Friendship

As a personal asset, a friend, the racy and sensational Ram will be more of a one day wonder, than a regular side kick. He cannot be programmed for long term relationships, says Ganesha; a rolling stone that gathers no moss. Like a true Ram, this homo sapien loves to graze in different pastures, and look of new company. Being flashy and far out, the Aries mixes and mingles well and makes quite an impact on others. He is, therefore, never short of company. Unlike others he sees friends simply as social diversions and, being very self sufficient, does not relish serious long term attachments and alliances. A person of this sign is not known for his generosity, helpfulness. He could, nevertheless, render help and support, not in the philanthropic sense, but purely as an investment, as a part of a give and take arrangement. He can be inordinately covetous, possessive and even greedy. In a group he can show an aggression, a tendency to control that can be hard and distasteful for others. The Aries are the prime 'flimflammers' of the Zodiac. But, to give the devils their dues, while they are with you in the capacity of your friend, you will relish every second of their company. Have no doubt; they will give you the time of your life.

Taurus

The heavyweight mammal symbolising Taurus is solid, sedate and serious about everything he does. In its human incarnation, he is no different; once a friend, always a friend. He is the true friend in need, says Ganesha. You will find him beside you, in your darkest hour, when even your shadow has deserted you. The marital pledge, ending in 'till death do us part' could well have been inspired by a Taurus. Have no doubt; he doesn't have an ounce of a canine's faithfulness, the unflinching, unconditional loyalty of a dog. He sees companionship as an all compassing, two way thing. His friend does have the right to his life as well as to all that he owns. If he finds that you are not 'fully there', and have a tendency to take him for granted, he will fade away. If you really value friendship and do not see companionship as all crap and 'bull', you should look for a Taurus. Just check it out; if you have childhood friends, they are more likely to be Taurus than of any other sun Sign. A word of warning; he may not lose his shirt too easily, but if you ignore him, or find him a rival, the scorching flames of his jealousy could become very difficult too douse.

Gemini

The Gemini twins form the two opposite modes of the Gemini persona, says Ganesha. The Gemini born can be flighty, fickle, flaky, restless and hyper kinetic. Or they can suddenly turn inert, languid and inactive. Your Gemini friend may suddenly drag you to a roller coaster ride, or to the woods for chasing and collecting butterflies. Next day, the same person would love to lie on the couch, snuggle into your side, watch a movie or read a book all day long. Born under this sign, a person becomes people friendly. He loves to keep expanding his personal and social network. The one thing he looks for, above all else is mental stimulation. He expects his friends to be bubbly, sparkling and spirited the way he is. 'Variety is the spice of life' must have been a Gemini phrase. In terms of socializing, no activity or a group of friends can hold their interest for too long. Having exchanged 'good byes' after the night's revelries, you may never know when you'll see them again. If you value the Gemini companionship, do not plan or propose anything structured or predictable. Remember, he thrives on intellectual stimulation, on emotional effervescence; gets a kick out of looking deeper, closer at people, situations and things.

Cancer

Like the stone, sea or sand Crab, the Cancer born is a home-bound creature who loves to lodge in the comfort and security of his familiar nooks and crannies. Your Cancer friend is a good host and a lavish entertainer, says Ganesha. He loves to flaunt his cooking and housekeeping skills. The Saturdays are generally earmarked for calling over close friends for a sumptuous dinner after several rounds of delectable drinks. The Cancer loves to be admired, appreciated and singled out for his classy styles and taste, the creativity and versatility he displays in the upkeep of his home. Your Cancer friend keeps your friendship close to his heart, and will frequently need you around to pull him out of the dumps. He will bare and share his innermost thoughts and feelings to you, and will expect you to do the same whenever required. He can, however be over emotional to a fault. The Crab loves to stay connected with the past. They are terribly fond of photos and photo albums, of private diaries and family chronicles. They make excellent friends and companions who will not fail to return you love and warmth. But being emotionally fragile, they need gentle handling.

Leo

A Lion? A meek and a modest one? That simply doesn't happen, says Ganesha. The Leo loves to stand proud and tall. The kings of the Zodiac are not meant for seclusion, they love to display their power and superiority to the people around. Your Leo friend may be warm, amicable, outgoing and responsive; but don't try to treat him as an equal and rub shoulders with. Being an equal is, to him, the same as playing second fiddle. That just won't do. In interpersonal relations, or social and public affairs and events, they need to take the centre stage, and once they have it they are simply scintillating; utterly splendid in their grace and generosity. They will spare no efforts to help and support their friends. They simply want to be praised and talked about. The Leo has only one weakness; his complete inability to stand in the shade, in the side lines. He is not too fussy about the social or professional pedigrees of his friends and fans and admirers. He simply craves for adulation, tons of it. His Leonine appetite can never have enough of it. He loves his satellites and sycophants, and will make sure that the loyal ones are well rewarded for their loyalties.

Virgo

Virgo is among the most well balanced individuals of the Zodiac. They will have the least amount of manias and phobias, excesses or deficiencies of all people. A Virgo born makes a very reliable and realistic friend and an ally, informs Ganesha. He has an unusually matter of fact, no nonsense, attitude towards his alliances. The Virgo is neither, finicky, fussy or fanciful. Even in his personal interactions, he loves to be planned and organized. He hates jack -in - the- box situations. A Virgo friend is, however, a fix up freak. He loves to be shipshape, spic and span, and is allergic to clutter and confusion, disorder and derangement. He can, however, be terribly persuasive about health and fitness issues, and will be willing to invest time, money and energy to see to it that his friends eat and exercise well. He will not hesitate to point out that your nails have over grown, that your teeth need dental car, or that you are unduly sweaty and smelly. He will correct you whenever he thinks you're on the wrong track. For him, that stands for being a true a friend. The Virgo does not believe in conditional or compartmentalised relationships and is therefore about the best buddy to have.

Libra

That 'time waits for nobody' doesn't mean much for a Libra native, says Ganesha. These protagonists of justice are not particularly sensitive about punctuality. If you have a Libra friend, you will know why you have to keep waiting and waiting long after the scheduled time of meeting has passed. Your Libra friend is utterly incorrigible in this matter, and is not likely to mend his ways. But, be sure, he will blow away all your grief and anger as soon as he turns up. The Libra is awfully bright and breezy and is irresistibly charming and attractive. You just can't be cross with the creature for too long. Having arrived late, he will nevertheless, expect you, a true pal to stay back longer than scheduled. Be sure, that he will make that worth your while. The Libra loves company and makes great company. When he takes you out for a day, or for an evening there will be nothing shoddy or sub standard about his plans and arrangements. Being ruled by Venus he loves luxury, dash and refinement. He will take you to exclusive resorts and restaurants, entertain you with the choicest foods and drinks. He is a well connected social animal who knows all the ropes and has all the contacts; a very handy and resourceful companion to have.

Scorpio

The Scorpio is intense and passionate about everything he does, says Ganesha. There is nothing arbitrary or casual in his approach to life. In friendship, this creature does not believe in half measures, in give and take relationships. He gets emotionally attached, and once assured of his counterpart's allegiance, he never parts company. A Scorpio friend may not be too assertive or possessive about his feelings. But his intriguing dead pan posture simply makes him more endearing and enigmatic. Unless amorously inclined and involved, the Scorpio dislikes physical overtures and endearments. Do not express your fondness through hugs and embraces. Say it in beautiful words. People born under this sign are not great socialisers. They are neither particularly forthcoming nor outgoing. They have an aversion to crowds and mass contacts. But they are by no means loners. They relate to individuals, not groups. Once a friend, he will not grudge you anything within his means and resources. If you need something he has, he will not hesitate in handing it over to you. Sadly, his spontaneous readiness to help and comfort friends often invites unmerited suspicion. Some people attribute ulterior motives to this show of unselfishness.

Sagittarius

The Sagittarian bowman is perpetually aiming at things that will satisfy his insatiable curiosity, his constant thirst to learn and understand, says Ganesha. This sign produces some of the most erudite and enlightened people you could encounter. They radiate an unmistakable air of intellectuality. Surprisingly, the strongest asset that sets him apart from others is his capacity to laugh at himself, and effortlessly bear the brunt of pranks and jokes. But he can be as unpredictable, playful, freaky and funny as any one else. You can never tire of a Sagittarius. He is lively, funny, witty and well informed. If you need to take someone along for a long trip, or a holiday, more in search of adventure than of rest, don't have second thoughts. Take a Sagittarius companion if you are lucky to have one. Otherwise, quickly make one. The high minded Sagittarius tends to believes that every person, or situation, has something to teach you. No one sees the whole world as a family, all humans as brothers and sisters, more than the Bowman does. Once a friend, the Archer will be always there to help, assist and advise you. All he needs is that you should be prepared to be dragged out of your house at a moment's notice, for another foray into the unexpected.

Capricorn

The Capricorn is extremely street smart and worldly wise, says Ganesha. He has the weakness of acting on the principle of 'me first'. In friendship, personal or professional, this hircine creature will extend his hand only if he stands to gain something. Profitless alliances and associations are senseless and sterile. As your companion, he will tend to take command of your relationship, and set the rules of day to day meetings and encounters. You may not necessarily toe his line, but you will be expected to accept his leadership. This individual also has a condescending, patronizing streak in his nature. He may, without any real reason or provocation, act like a dad, and ply you with golden words of wisdom and advice. But once he accepts you as an equal in style and class, in eminence and erudition, he will shed his selfishness, his tendency to be one up, and be as great a pal, a companion as you could hope for. From then on he will be loyal, straight and steadfast--- for life. The one thing that a Capricorn neither forgives nor forgets is a turncoat someone who stabs in the back

Aquarius

The child of Aquarius, the house of affection and amity, is inherently benevolent and people friendly. He relates with people more at the human level and less at the personal, more objectively and less subjectively. He can get attached without getting emotional. That makes it difficult for others to get close enough to read his thoughts and feelings. This Airy individual is not as free with his feelings as he can be with his favours. It may take years before you could really size up and see through this friend of yours. For your pal, however, this is not an issue. He never likes to prove anything or do anything for effect. As a friend, he is a natural. If you are feeling bad and bummed out, you will find him beside you with a handkerchief, a sandwich and perhaps a small wad of dough. That's a true thoroughbred Aquarius, kind and magnanimous. The following information will be of great help in keeping your Aquarius pal in cheerful and healthy spirits. Do not try to be too possessive or demanding. The Aquarius values his independence more than anything else, says Ganesha. He hates being tied down. He can't be tied down!

Pisces

The Pisces may seem otherworldly, vague and withdrawn. But the Fish is one of the most sensitive and caring creatures of the Zodiac. So says Ganesha. He is awfully delicate, vulnerable but, uniquely, hundred percent intellectual plus hundred percent emotional. Your Pisces companion doesn't guess; he senses. He loves to know and understand what is amiss, what ails you. He makes a perfect sounding board; understanding as well as trustworthy. The Pisces is a straight and simple character. He is terribly trusting and tractable. The poor thing is easy meat for unscrupulous characters, but is smart enough to sense when he's being had. He is easily hurt by coarse or insincere treatment. He has a deep rooted need for comfort, support and security. The past traumas have a tendency to haunt him now and then. When down and depressed, he needs a strong, sensitive shoulder to lean on. That is what he seeks i n a friend. In his elements, he is the ideal company to have. He is breezy and bubbly, physically, emotionally as well as intellectually. When he is dragging you along, don't dig in your heels. Just tag along. The only thing you are not likely to get, is getting bored or disappointed.

Jaya-Parvati Vrat - penance for happy conjugal life

Jaya Parvati Vrat is a religious observance where married as well as unmarried women fast for six days. This year, the Vrat begins on 23rd July and concludes on 28th July. The vrat is observed across India under different names. In Gujarat, it is widely observed with pomp and grandeur. The six-day festival incorporates in itself many other important religious and social occasions.

On 23rd July this year, the first day of the Vrat, women will observe Pradosh Vrat associated with Raviyog, which assumes greater astrological significance; on the second day Sivasayan Chaturdashi, which is observed widely in Orissa as Shiva Chaturdashi and on the third day Purnima Vrata and Kokila Vrata. Kokila Vrata is widely observed in South India. In Kashmir, the Jwalamukhi Mela too starts on this day. On the fifth day, Ashunya Shayan and Mangal Gauri Vrat is observed with an exception in which men and women, i.e. husband and wife participate in order to get the blessings of God for a long and happy conjugal life. Goddess Mangalagauri is worshipped and the devotees have to remain awake the whole night, which is called Jaya-Parvati Vrat Jagaran. People observe this Vrat for affluence and riches. They must observe strict penance, fast and keep their mind free from evil thoughts and desires. The husband and wife will refrain from conjugal life. The devotees must bathe in pure water mixed with ten aromatic herbs like jatamashi, turmeric, shilajeet, sandal etc., which are to be drenched in water much earlier.

By observing this vrat, unmarried girls get rid of the obstacles in the way of their marriage. The main obstacle, the Bhaumadosh, is removed by this Vrat. Married women can earn the virtue of happy conjugal life and long life of their husbands. On 28th July this year the six-day observance concludes.

Kokila Vrat

A female cuckoo's image is made out of rice paste in this Vrat. But why worship this bird? Our Puranas have a mention of the legend behind this fact.

Goddess Parvati appeared in different forms during different periods by different names. One such form is Sati, the daughter of Daksha Prajapati. She chose Lord Shiva as her husband in the Swayamvar. But that was against the wish of her father who disliked Shiva and put him on low esteem. He used to abuse Shiva as barbarian and Lord of evil elements like Bhoot, Pret and Pishach.
Later, Daksha Prajapati arranged one Mahayagna in which he invited all the Gods and Goddesses but not Shiva and Sati. However, Sati decided to attend the occasion in spite of her husband's strong disapproval. Shiva got annoyed. At the altar of Yagna, Daksha received all the Gods and Goddesses and eulogised them, but at the same time abused, censured and spoke ill of Shiva in the strongest language. It was too much for Sati, the devout wife, who could not stand that and jumped in to the sacrificial fire and ended her life.

Shiva came to know about the happenings at Daksha's Yagna and became so furious that he sent of his attendant Veerbhadra to Daksha's Yagna and ordered him to destroy it. The Yagna was in shambles and the Gods who tried to resist Veerbhadra and save the Yagna fell flat with broken limbs and numerous injuries. This made Lord Vishnu appear at the scene. He came to Shiva to pacify him and requested him to bring the deformed Gods to their original form and grace. Shiva responded to Vishnu's request and the Gods got back to their original form. But he did not pardon his wife. Instead he cursed Sati to take the form of a female cuckoo and remain the same for many years. For years the cursed Sati had to stay in the heavenly garden, the Nandan Kanan, and later on she was born as Parvati, the daughter of the Himalayas and observed month-long Kokila Vrat. As a result she got back Shiva as her husband.

From that time, Kokila Vrat is in vogue with the belief that if any married woman on the day of Shravan Purnima, worships Kokila's idol bedecked with ornaments and jewellery and offers it to the Brahmin or her superior in-laws, she can earn good fortune with health, wealth, husband and son. As per the legend, at least one married woman of each family should follow this Jaya Parvati Vrat niyam for the safety and prosperity of the entire family.

Last but not the least, this religious practice has achieved immense importance due to the fact that this falls during the chaturmaas.

Guru Purnima - A perfect time to thank your Guru

Ajnaanang Timiraaandhasya Jnaanaanjana Salaakayaa;
Chakshurunmilitang Yena Tasmai Sree Gurave Namah!

'Guru' in India, holds a supreme significance. Guru is a person with revered personality, who by his teachings enlightens us. He introduces us to the vast world of knowledge and shuns our ignorance. He teaches us, he guides us, he protects us from all sorts of dangers and sins. Perhaps, that's the reason why Kabir in one of his songs says, that if God and Guru stand side by side, the first adoration and worship should be offered to Guru and then to God. This is because through Guru we can recognise and realize the significance of God.

The full-moon day of the month of Aashaadh is observed as Guru Purnima or Vyas Purnima because on this lunar day (Tithi), Maharshi Veda Vyas, one of the seven immortals, descended to this mortal world. He is called the guru of all gurus, for he not only compiled all the Vedas together and systematically divided it into four parts, viz. - Rig, Sam, Yajur and Atharva, but also created an epic like the Mahabharata. Apart from that he composed 18 Puranas, Upapuranas, Vyas Samhita etc. to teach mankind as to how to lead our lives.

Such a genius and gifted personality is not to be found in the annals of literary history of mankind. We all adore and worship him on this day through our own preceptor, who is regarded to be Maharshi Vyas incarnate. So every devout Hindu worships his/her own guru regarding him as Vyas Dev, our Adiguru. This worship of the preceptor or guru has been running from time immemorial when during the ancient Vanaasram period the disciples residing in their Guru’s house used to learn various Shastras. On this auspicious day the disciples used to worship their guru and offer him honorarium in order to propitiate him and obtain his blessings.

Early in the morning, the devotees or disciples take a bath, wear new clothes and worship the feet of their revered guru and offer him food, money, clothes, ornaments etc. as per the their capacity. Disciples of all Hindu religious orders? Vaishnav, Shaiva or Shakta observe this day because in their guru the disciple finds Brahma, Vishnu, Maheswar and the Parabrahma, i.e. Supreme Soul. This is what is mentioned in the following sloka from Guruvandana:

Gururbrahmaa Gururvishnuh
Gurudevo Maheswara;
Gurursaakshaat Parambrahma
Tasmai Sreegurave Namah

If the Guru Dev is not alive, his portrait or picture should be worshipped with all other rites and rituals. It is pertinent to mention here that our shastras have taught us that our prime preceptors are our parents. And so father, mother and elders too should be worshipped along with the guru and their blessings obtained on this auspicious day. The composition of Maharshi Veda Vyas should be read collectively on this great day.

This year 2017 Guru Purnima falls on Sunday, the 9th of July.

RATH YATRA - A journey towards salvation

The 'Chariot festival' or Ratha Yatra literally means journey by chariot. This festival is observed across India with pomp and gaiety. Lord Vishnu's incarnations such as Lord Krishna or Jagannath or even Lord Ram's idol is placed on a chariot drawn by the 'dastus'. It is brought to different destinations like Goddess Lakshmi's temple, Radhika's temple or Sita Devi's. Eventually, it goes to Puri to Gundicha temple where the wooden idol of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra are made. This Ratha Yatra starts on the second lunar day of bright fortnight in the month of Aashaadh (Sukla daitiya) and continues for eight days. Among all the chariot festivals, on this occasion the foremost festival is observed in Puri, one of the four greatest places of pilgrimage in India. Here three chariots, one each of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram and of their beloved sister Subhadra Devi are brought on the streets of Puri and drawn by thousands of devotees who converge on the occasion form all over the globe. The most important characteristics of this festival of Puri is that people of all castes, right from Brahmin to Chandal have the right to draw the chariot. This chariot proceeds slowly in the morning after the performing the Puja and other rituals. The king of Puri, Gajapati, sweeps the street with a golden broom. The chariots are covered with different colored clothes. They have different names - Lord Jagannath's hariot is named 'Nandighosh', Lord Balaram's 'Taladhwaj' and Subhadra Devi's chariot is called 'Darpadalana'. The Nandighosh's colour is red and yellow; the Taladhwaj's colour is red and green while the Darpadalana's colour is red and blue. Though Devi Subhadra is worshipped in Puri, but in Hindu mythology, she is not called a goddess. Only in Mahabharata we find that she is the beloved sister of his two loving elder brothers.Another interesting feature of the idols of Puri is that unlike the idols of Gods and Goddesses of all the temples of India, they have more resemblance with tribal totems.  The main temple of Puri was built in the 12th century during the reign of the king Anantavarman Chodganga. After that, another 120 temples were built later. Before the journey begins, the chariots are placed in proper array - first Lord Balaram's chariot, which is 44 feet high, then Devi Subhadra's chariot, which is 43 feet high and at last Lord Jagannath's, which has a height of 45 feet. Throughout the day the chariots proceed slowly towards Gundicha temple and reach there in the evening. The three deities rest there for eight days and on the ninth day, their return starts in the morning, after performing Puja and other rituals. On the day before the chariots are placed in right array by turning their faces towards the streets. This return journey is called in Oriya as 'Bahuda Jatra, which starts in the morning and terminates before the Jagannath temple. The deities are kept on the chariots and are worshipped till Ekadashi or eleventh lunar day, after which they are again placed in the temple in their respective places.Another feature of Puri's Jagannath temple is that the world's largest kitchen is made outside the temple, where about 25,000 devotees take the Mahaprasad, or cooked food offered to God, daily and during the festival the number surpasses one lakh. 14,000 men work for proper manning the kitchen and other arrangements. And around 6,000 priests are engaged for worshipping etc. year after year without interruption. This is the national festival of Orissa spanning for 10 days in which lakhs of devotees congregate from every corner of the globe. Another most interesting feature of Puri's kitchen is that the Brahmins share food in the same 'thali' with people of any caste. The pundits on sociology say that it is the remnant of Buddhism, which negates any caste division and as the temple of Puri was once a Buddhist shrine. This feature is found nowhere in India and the priests say that in Sreekshetra, i.e. Puri, there is no caste bar and all his offspring are equal in the eye of Lord Jagannath. Each year the three chariots are built with wood and there is not a single piece of iron used in it. The wood is collected on Vasant Panchami day and the work starts on Akshay Tritiya and the work of the three chariots is completed a few days before the Ratha Yatra. The Jagannath temple is a piece of art and sculpture. The temple is 214 feet high and resembles the Shiva temple or Lingaraj temple of Bhubaneswar. It is believed that previously the outer side of the temple was full of humorous figurines. But in the later period these were covered with line and sand and different design was built. The Pundits say that it is was done to obliterate the Buddhist remnants after the waning of Buddhism in India. It is pertinent to note here that unlike the chariots, the building of idols of three deities does not take place every year but once in 8 to 19 years in the month of Aashaadh with extra days in the calendar. That year, the bodies of three idols are built and this occasion is called 'Navakalevar' meaning new body. And a festival is observed on this occasion and the old idols are buried at Koyli Baikuntha a place inside the temple boundary. This year, the Ratha Yatra begins on 13th of July and concludes on 22nd July 2010. This period is one of the most auspicious periods to begin all auspicious functions and perform all auspicious rituals.

Will your wish to fly abroad be fulfilled? Ganesha can tell

The commonest question, which astrologers come across these days from their clients is "Will I travel abroad?" Travelling abroad is one of the most cherished dreams for a lot of people. With an expansion of the IT industry, many Indians have this ambition to travel abroad to fulfil their dreams. There can be various reasons for which they wish to travel - education, job, marriage or to permanently settle there. Following Houses are responsible for travelling abroad i.e. 1st,3rd, 4th,7th,9th, and 12th.

Travelling abroad for education:

These days students have the curiosity to study abroad and a explore a different part of the world. This curiosity gives them the urge to pursue their education in a foreign land. Travelling abroad for education will depend on the 5th House or the Lord of the 5th House's connection with the 12th House and the Lord of the 12th House. If the Lord of the 5th House is placed in 12th House or the Lord of the 12th House is placed in 5th House, there are chances of the person fly abroad for higher studies or education.

Chart

In the above chart, we can see that the Lord of the 12th House, Jupiter is placed in 5th House with the Lord of the 5th House Venus and Lagna Lord Saturn, thus making a wonderful 'Yog' to travel abroad for higher studies.

Permanent residency in a foreign land:
To settle abroad permanently, there must be an affliction to the 4th House, and secondly, the Lord of the 4th House must be connected to the 9th and 12th House.

Case Study

1. In this chart, the Lord of the 9th and 12th Houses, Mercury is placed in 4th House with the Lord of the 10th House Moon, indicating travel to a foreign country for education.
2. Malefic Rahu is also placed in the 4th House.
3. Lagna Lord is placed in the 12th House, indicating permanent stay abroad.
4. Similarly, in Chaturthamsa, we can see that the Lord of the12th House, Mars is placed in 4th House with Ketu, and the Lord of the 4th House , Jupiter is placed in 12th House confirming a permanent stay abroad.

The astrological importance of Jupiter or 'Guru'

Jupiter, also known as Guru is considered to be one of the most benefic planets in astrology. It is the largest planet in the solar system, and is nearest in comparison with the Sun in regard to its size. It takes around 12 years to revolve around the Sun, which in other words also means that it remains in each zodiac sign for one year approximately, according to transit or Gochar. It is considered to be a teacher or a 'Guru' as the name suggests. Jupiter in any Birth Chart-Horoscope, if placed strong by sign placement and House, and if well aspected, makes the native truthful and honest, and provides him 'Divine Grace'.

Basics

Jupiter is also known as 'Brihaspati'. It rules over the two signs of the zodiac - Sagittarius and Pisces. It achieves Exaltation in the sign of the Moon, which is Cancer and its deep Exaltation point is at five degrees of Cancer. It gets debilitation in the sign of Saturn - Capricorn. Jupiter achieves directional strength in the Lagna or the 1st House. An Archer symbolizes Sagittarius, and therefore those natives who are ruled by an Elevated Jupiter in their charts will hit or achieve their targets more easily than other natives. Similarly, the Pisces being a Watery sign and the symbol being Fishes, Jupiter also represents expression or speech.

Jupiter is the reason or cause for famous Yogas like 'Gajakesari Yoga' or a Pancha Maha Purusha Yoga like 'Hamsa Yoga' among many others.

It is a Male planet and is of 'Sattva Guna'. Thus, those with a well placed Jupiter would be good, honest, religious, God fearing, and wise advisers having peaceful temperaments.

Jupiter denotes the North-East direction. Those who are acquainted with Vaastu, are aware that this is the most auspicious part of the Plot, which is known as 'Eeshan' where an image of the Lord one worships, is kept for daily worship.

Special Aspects of Jupiter

All the planets have been allotted a common 'drishti', which is known as aspect. Aspect means to influence another planet, House or zodiac sign. Normally, every planet has been given the 7th House power of aspect, which means that it can aspect the planet seated in the 7th House and sign from its own placement. But Jupiter has been given special powers of the 5th and 9th House aspect apart from the 7th House. Therefore, if Jupiter is well placed, suppose in the 5th House, then it will aspect the 9th House as well as the Lagna or 1st House, making a complete Trikona aspect, plus its aspect to the 11th House of gains. This can be considered as a very fortunate Horoscope indeed from all counts, material as well as spiritual.

Nakshatras or Constellations owned by Jupiter

The Constellations owned by Jupiter are, Punarvasu, Visakha and Purva Bhadra. If Jupiter is the Lord of a Benefic House in a Horoscope, and if three or more planets are placed in the constellations owned by Jupiter, it would then create a very good impact on the positivity of the Horoscope and the destiny of the native.

Astrological and mythological associations

In mythology, Brihaspati is the son of Angirasa (Anga- physical body; rasa - the fluid in the body). There is a continuous secretion and flow of fluid in the body, in sorrow or joy, fear or anger, hope or disappointments. The food intake is the source of the fluid (Rasa), and this exercises influence over the body and mind (Chittavriiti), which is why Brihaspati also concerns our food, life and living. It gives power to sustain, thus connecting to the liver in the body that sustains life.

Brihaspati is also addressed as Bachaspati or master of speech, or Lord of language, eloquence and wisdom. Here 'Bach' represents 'Bak' or commonly known as 'Vak' or speech, and 'Pati' means Master. Like water travels freely in the sign of Pisces owned by Jupiter, Birhaspati represents expressions.

It is characterized as 'Dev Guru' or the one who gives guidance to the Devtas - Gods. Hence, those with positive influence of Jupiter are also religious in their temperaments.

Jupiter signifies

Being the Lord of the Natural 'Bhagyasthana' in the Kala Purusha Kundli, Jupiter is a significator of good fortune.
The 9th House represents long journeys, and so does Jupiter.
The 9th House represents 'Dharma' and Jupiter represents righteousness or justice. It represents higher consciousness.
Jupiter is the karaka for gold, wealth or finance.
In a Horoscope of a female, it is additionally the karaka for the husband.
Jupiter is karaka for child.
When we make Prashna or Horary charts the above karakas help in determining a positive answer easily if they appear in the ruling planets.

Body and Health related Significations

Growth and accumulation is the forte of Jupiter. It rules over different body parts like the liver, tumours, malignancy, organs of hearing, lower abdomen, hips, circulation of blood, blood pressure, arteries, and fat in the body. This is the reason why those natives having influence of Jupiter on their Lagnas tend to develop fat or become bulky in their middle ages. The 9th House in the natural Horoscope of Kala Purusha Kundli appears in Sagittarius, which is ruled by Jupiter. It represents the portion of legs above the knees. Hence, this part of the legs too is covered as territory of Jupiter along with the lower portion of the feet, which represents the last part of the body downwards, just as Pisces, ruled by Jupiter is the last sign of the zodiac. Elephantitis in legs is governed by Jupiter. Jaundice too is ruled by it as Jupiter rules over the liver as mentioned above.

Other matters represented by Jupiter

Jupiter represents temples, courts, colleges and schools, big palatial buildings, and all places where religious discourses are held. Construction of schools, colleges, universities, charitable institutions, hospitals, sanatoriums, banks, temples, church, mosque will all come in the domain of Jupiter.
Logic is perfectly represented in astrological inferences. The 9th House Sagittarius also signifies higher education. Therefore, Jupiter represents college and education.
The 9th House denotes long travel and all matters related to travelling to a distant place.
The 9th House represents father in Hindu Astrology, and father is also known as the first Guru; hence, ones 'Guru' or 'Preceptor' are represented by Jupiter.
The 9th House represents religion and the 12th House Pisces represents discourse and philanthropic work. Jupiter is thus connected to discourses or Sermons as well.
The 12th House also represents investments on long term basis, so one has to connect this logic with Jupiter. The 12th House deals with expenditures, capital investments, outflow of finances, foreign exchange, the Reserve Bank, Forex, rise in Shares and Stocks, are all governed by Jupiter.
Since the 12th zodiac sign, Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, all aspects of the 12th House, like foreign travels, hospitalizations, the other world, Moksha or Salvation is also ruled by Jupiter.
Jupiter is the largest planet and has traits of expansion, therefore whatever it connects with, would be big, vast or enormous.
Since Jupiter is large or expressive - becoming famous, gaining respect in society, promotions, progress is all governed by Jupiter.

Professions connected with Jupiter

Any profession connected to religion, preaching, priestly professions come under domain of Jupiter. Since the zone of knowledge is also symbolized by Jupiter, any profession connected to educational institutions too come under the sphere of Jupiter. Since Jupiter is connected to 'Dharma' or righteousness being a 'Dev Guru' or teacher, all professions connected to law, courts of law, comes under its province. Since Jupiter is karaka of children, all professions connected to child rearing and nurturing like mother-toddler play schools etc, come under the realm of Jupiter. So does Navy, foreign travel related business, since the 9th House of travels is ruled by Jupiter as owner of Sagittarius the 9th zodiac sign. Since Jupiter rules over fat, all professions connected to products which increase fat in the body, like trade in milk, ghee, sweetmeats, almonds, cashew nuts, and peanuts, etc. Jupiter being Lord of the 12th House and Pisces sign in natural Horoscope, all professions connected to hospitals, prisons, publicity, foreign trade, ship building, offshore drilling, development, etc. come under Jupiter's domain.
To summarize, all professions connected to legal affairs, Brahmins, teaching, scriptures, lawyers, advocates, interest, rent, banking and finance, ministers, administrators, bankers, revenue department, treasury, economics, gold, turmeric, rubber, metals, springs, jewelry, shipping business, and foreign affairs are under Jupiter's domain.

To Conclude

There are other technical matters which may transform the effects of Jupiter that may undergo a change due to aspects and conjunctions from other planets. Jupiter in mundane astrology too is a subject matter of importance. But these are issues of study, to be dealt separately.
In individual horoscopes, a strong Jupiter is synonymous to a strong promise and assurance of divine interventions and providential help available to a native in times of stress and strife in his life, provided all other planetary positions are congenial. It is also an indicator of your past 'Purva Poonya' or results of past good actions now bearing fruit in this birth.
Jupiter is considered as one of the most benefic planets in astrology. It is the largest planet in the solar system, and comes nearest in comparison with the Sun in regard to its size. Ganesha throws light on how Jupiter plays a significant role in matters like body and health, choosing a profession and religious inclination.

Lady luck will stay on Dhoni's side, says Ganesha

Dhoni

Affectionately known as 'Mahi', Mahendra Singh Dhoni has rocked the Indian cricket scenario like no one since Sachin Tendulkar. The popular youth icon has made a big impact in and outside the cricketing world. His power-packed performances and on-field agility have had fans, especially girls, swooning all over him. But the heart throb is no longer single. Although his wedding with childhood friend Sakshi was scheduled for 2011, it was pre-poned to July 4th due to some astrological reasons. With Dhoni entering one of the most auspicious years of his life, his family thought this would be the best time to formalise the couple's relationship.

Dhoni begins a new innings in his life. On his birthday today, July 7th, Ganesha uses the vedic astrology system to predict his year ahead.

MS Dhoni has Mars Atmakaraka placed in its own star Mrigasira, Sun exalted in the Navmansa,Mercury placed in its own sign and Saturn-Jupiter conjunction in Virgo. This strong planetary configuration makes him original, independent, strong, very good tactician and a good conversationalist. So there is no doubt about his potential as a Captain. There's been talk of replacing Dhoni as a captain after Twenty20 World Cup debacle in West Indies. His charts indicate that he has the courage and stamina to face such challenges and upheavals and he proved it once again by winning the Asia cup recently in Sri Lanka.

At present the transiting Ketu is moving over the natal Sun, the transiting Saturn is moving over the natal Saturn forming square with Sun and the transiting Rahu is passing through the 7th House from natal Sun forming square with Saturn. Due to this difficult transit his performance as a player and captain has come under scrutiny. However, with auspicious transit of Jupiter in Pisces, things picked up for good. He will remain under pressure till mid November 2010. But from 20th November 2010 onwards he may be able to contribute significantly towards smooth working in his assignment. Time will be conducive for him during the first half of 2011 when the World Cup is scheduled. However, success of team in world cup will depend on other players as well. But as a captain he will definitely lead the team from the front.

M.S.Dhoni just married his school friend Sakshi Singh Rawat. The wedding chart looks good with Moon conjunct strong Jupiter. Venus is exalted in the Navmansa. So the couple's relationship will grow closer, and will become more solid. However, there is no perfect marriage and no relationship without conflict. So there will be issues and conflicts but the couple will have the strength to fight it all together. They will create a strong healthy family atmosphere that helps all members to grow as individuals in a loving, supportive setting.

Naadi Dosha and match-making- Ganesha reveals the connection

GaneshaSpeaks.com
During the process of match-making, it is important to check the Naadi. Basically, there are 3 Naadis: Aadya, Madhya & Antya.

These Naadis indicate the Tridoshas- Vaat (gas), Pitta (acidity) & Cough, which are the  basics of Ayurveda.

Aadya:- This Naadi has Vaat dosh & hence, if both the partners have this Naadi, the child born to them will have the same dosha, will experience some health problems in early childhood.

Madhya:- This Nadi has Pitta dosh & hence, if both the partners have the Naadi, their child will have the same dosh & may suffer from a serious illness such as jaundice at the time of birth. It may also give rise to a situation, wherein the child is required to be kept in an incubator.

Antya:-This Nadi has Cough dosha. If both the partners have this Naadi, their child too will have the same dosha, & may suffer from health problems during the early days of life.

Now, it is clear that the same Naadi is not advisable. However, in any of the following conditions, one can think about it & go ahead while match-making.

  • In case of emergency.
  • If the Lord of Navmansh is different.
  • If the blood group is different.

For the second point above, we have to work on Sukshma Naadi & if it is different, one may go ahead.

Sukshma Naadi:- Each Nakshtra is having 4 Navmansh, out of which 1st & 4th Navmansh is having the same Naadi in Sukshma too.

Examples:-
(1) Aadya Naadi

1st Navmansh has aadya + aadya. Hence, it is totally aadya.

2nd Navmansh has a combination of aadya & madhya. So, it is partially aadya.
3rd Navmansh has a combination of aadya & antya. Hence, it is also a partially aadya.
4th Navmansh is again a combination of aadya & aadya, which is totally aadya.

 (2)Madhya Naadi

1st Navmansh has a combination of madhya & madhya &
hence, total is madhya.
2nd Navmansh has a combination of madhya & antya.
Hence, a partially madhya.
3rd Navmansh has a combination of madhya & aadya. So, a partially madhya.
4th Navmansh has a combination of madhya & madhya & so, it is totally madhya.

 (3)Antya Naadi

1st & 4th Navmansh has a combination of antya & antya &
hence, a totally antya.
2nd Navmansh has a combination of antya & aadya, hence,
a partially antya.
3rd Navmansha has a combination of antya & madhya & a partially antya.

According to the table mentioned above, it is clear that though the Naadis are different,if the Sukshma Naadi has the same combination, a female may suffer from health problems while conceiving or during her pregnancy. Also, her child may have to face some troubles as far as health is concerned. It is the duty of an astrologer to guide people, but they do not have the knowledge of blood groups or blood group matching.

Will the fresh pairing of Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor in the small-budget film 'I Hate Luv Storys' lure the audience to cinema houses? Ganesha finds out.

Release time chart

Astrological Observations

  • Mars is in the Ascendant
  • Mercury is in it's own sign in the 11th House of gains, but Ascendant Lord Sun and 2nd plus 11th House Lord Mercury are afflicted by Ketu.
  • Moon is placed in the seventh House in water bearer's sign.
  • Jupiter aspects the second House by Saturn is posited in the second House.
  • 10th Lord is in the 12th House

Astrological Predictions

  • Ganesha feels that the film may have an above start at the box office, but with the help of mouth publicity it may do good business till the first weekend. Despite this, it may not churn a lot because 2nd House and 11th House Lord Mercury is afflicted.
  • In such case, if the film is released with more prints across India and abroad, the first week business may help producers gather a good sum, but this movie may not have any 'Midas touch' to keep the audience interested for a long time.
  • Some of the dialogues may be good.
  • Mercury is in it's own sign, so this may attract youngsters. However, it may not appeal all age groups.
  • This film may end up doing average business in India, but in foreign land it might do well, predicts Ganesha.

Good luck and may Lord Ganesha bless the cast and crew of 'I Hate LUV Storys'.

Astrology and the awakening of Kundalini

GaneshaSpeaks.com
It is important for us to know the relation between the Planets and various Chakras.

1. Kundalini - Rahu.
2. Muladhar Chakra - Venus.
3. Swadhisthan Chakra - Mars.
4. Manipur Chakra - Sun.
5. Anahat (Heart) Chakra - Jupiter.
6. Vishuddha (Throat) Chakra - Mercury.
7. Agnya (Third Eye) Chakra - Moon.
8. Sahastradhar Chakra - Saturn.
9. Ojas (Samadhi) - Ketu.

Planetary conditions in Horoscope responsible for Kundalini Awakening: -

1. Square, Trine, Parivartan, Conjunction or  Opposition between Jupiter & Sun, Moon or Rahu.
2. Square, Trine, Parivartan, Conjunction, Opposition or Aspect of Venus with Jupiter or Saturn.
3. Jupiter in 8th House, or related with 8th House or more planets in 8th House.
4. Square, Trine, Parivartan, Conjunction, Opposition or Aspect of Venus with the Lord of 10th House.

In a Horoscope, if the number of conditions applicable is either one or more, then Kundalini Awakening becomes easier. If Rahu falls in a fiery or airy sign in the Horoscope, it is believed that the person progresses quickly towards the Divine power. One is likely to get some Siddhi too. For getting Diksha from a Satpurush (Saint), it is important to have a favorable Moon & Saturn in transit. Also Jupiter & Venus should not be in conjunction with Sun at the time of Diksha. This is how one can figure out how far he or she is astrologically capable of Addhyaatm (a divine life) & the extent of his or her success.

The importance of blood groups in match making

GaneshaSpeaks.com
Normally, Astrologers do the match-making by considering the horoscopes of the two individuals. However, there are times when it becomes necessary to go through the blood groups of the prospective candidates to compare the compatibility between them. To know the relations between various blood groups is an astrologers' prime responsibility. The chart below mentions the matching blood groups and the blood groups that do not match with each other.
Blood Groups that do not match

Sr. Boy Girl
1 A O & B
2 B O & A
3 AB O, A & B
4 Rh+ve Rh-ve

Matching Blood Groups

Sr. Boy Girl
1 A A & AB
2 B B & AB
3 O O, A, B & AB
4 AB AB
5 Rh+ve Rh+ve
6 Rh-ve Rh+ve & Rh-ve

If we follow the above chart of the matching and  not-matching blood groups, it will definitely help in finding a better match. There are times when horoscopes score a perfect ten on ten astrologically, but if the blood groups of the two people do not match, it creates trouble between them in future.
